551ST MEMORIAL PLAQUE
The illustration of the Memorial Plaque [shown below] was designed to honor the fifty flyers from the 551st AEW&C Wing who lost their lives in the three air tragedies in the North Atlantic while flying Active Air Defense missions from Otis Air Force Base, Massachusetts.
The cast bronze plaque, which is 24 X 48 inches in size, is to be permanently located at Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma. It will be dedicated at a Memorial Ceremony to be held there during the Combined Reunion at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on June 28, 29, 30 and July 1, 2001.
The selection of that location by the Reunion Committee for the Memorial Plaque is fitting in that an EC-121 Lockheed "Warning Star" Super Constellation [53-0552A] is located there as well as another Memorial Plaque dedicated to the twenty-four member crew of YUKLA 27, an Boeing E-3 AWACS aircraft, who lost their lives at Elmendorf AFB, Alaska, in September 1995.
